Here is your chance to convert your 2wd van to a Syncro. 1986 vanagon Syncro, originally a tintop that had a westy conversion. The van had a melt down however not all is lost.
Valuable, salvageable, usable parts that are included in this sale to help you with your swap
- Clean/clear title in my name
- Van has all sheet metal parts needed to convert a 2wd van (fuel filler area, steering rack mount, tray above the tank, etc)
- Syncro locker transmission with some new parts (locker actuator, shift shaft ball, locker indicator switch, front shaft seal, shift shaft seal, all new 3k miles ago)
- Transmission mounts
- Front syncro diff assembly
- Front subframe with all axles (all 4 CV boots good), brakes, spindles, hubs, etc.
- New (3k miles ago) stainless braided brake lines
- New (3k miles ago) steering rack, tie rods, tie rod ends
- Rebuilt front calipers with new pads (3k miles ago)
- Drive/prop shaft
- Vacuum bottle for locker actuator
- Interior locker control plate bracket (faceplate and knob melted away)

I have no history on the transmission prior to me owning the van. During the time that I have owned it, i never had problems with the drive train. The transmission shifted butter smooth, was not noisy, and there were indications that the transmission had been removed at some point in the past before I bought it. Not sure if removal was for a rebuild or general removal for other work. 3k miles ago, I drained the fluids in the transmission and front diff. The drain plugs did not have any chunks or large pieces stuck to the magnet -- it had a small amount of fine particles from normal wear and tear. The tranny and front diff were then filled with Swepco 206? I have a partial jug of it left that I'll include.
The fuel tank has a hole in it where the driver side SS strap is. When you look inside the tank, there is still some fuel in it, the in tank strainer, and the new (3k miles ago) return hose and fuel sender still look brand new or unscathed -- I guess those items inside the tank did not catch on fire. The plastic bezel/surround for the fuel filler melted but the cap did not. The cap is damaged but could probably be repaired. I also have the key for the cap.
Westy seat swivel bases have been removed from the body. The van does not have any wheels or tires included so you'll need to bring some. The wheel adapters that are in the photos are not included. Pretty much everything under the body didn't get burnt/

Buy the van, remove all the parts you need for your swap, and then scrap the van to recoup some of your costs.
